The weekend looked promising, bright sunshine and good weather was predicted. Our annual pilgrimage, much awaited by us came to a pass over the weekend. We visited our own Tirupathy Balaji temple in Birmingham, UK
Called the Tividale Tirupathy Balaji temple, this beautiful temple is set in the West Midlands. Everything from the laddoos, the crowd and the richness of the temple, one could forget which part of the world he/she is in. The crowd of course, is more on special occasions and weekends. A two hour journey for us, we had a divine time there. Seeing the Lord of Tirumula here was no different than seeing him in Tirupathy, except there are no major queues and no mottai’s to be seen. Special food was served in the dosa place as this weekend was their anniversary celebrations.
Set in a 13 acre land, this temple is one of the largest temple in Europe. Costing about £6.5 million to construct, they are still seeking funds to complete and maintain the temple. Scores of sculptors from India have worked on intricate carvings of Hindu deities which adorn the walls, pillars, ceilings and roof of the temple.

The temple is busy throughout the year. With a school for Vedic heritage on alternate Sundays, daily worships, grand festivals, cultural programmes, their own matrimonial services, music/dance classes and many more youth activities, these humanitarian projects radiate the blessings of this divine sanctuary.  Aided by volunteers, the temple’s calendar seems pretty full.

I am posting some pictures here, taken during my visit. Some, I had to take from the net, as there were special puja’s going on and photography was not allowed inside.

I pray to the almighty for his special blessings to all those born on this day and the rest ofcourse!! Govinda Govinda!!
